EV charging

Driving an EV? A card’s “gas” bonus does not always cover charging: it depends on whether the card names EV charging and how the charger codes (MCC 5552 vs. a gas station code). Home charging usually posts as part of your electric bill. See Best Credit Cards for EV Charging for the cards that name EV charging, with rates, caps and fees, plus a worked example. Buying the EV? Compare electric car loan rates and Tesla financing on Your Best Loan Rates; many credit unions take a fixed amount off the rate for an EV.

Do gas credit cards cover EV charging stations?

Several do but you need to check terms. U.S. Bank Altitude Connect explicitly covers gas and EV charging at 4%. Wells Fargo Autograph includes EV charging at 3%. Citi Strata earns 3x at gas and EV charging. Tesla Superchargers sometimes code as retail rather than fuel. ChargePoint and Electrify America are more reliable.

Use the wallet calculator to model your specific numbers. Best grocery card options →

Do Walmart or Target gas stations earn bonus rewards?
