Canadian points and miles values (CAD)

The value we give one point in each Canadian rewards program, in Canadian cents, so points cards can be ranked against cash back. Each value comes from the program’s or issuer’s own published redemption options, with the method, the examples and the sources shown.

How the values are set. Like our US point values, each program has a cash floor (the lowest fixed redemption the program publishes, such as a statement credit) and a value used (what a typical member can achieve, kept conservative, never the best case). Where a program publishes a fixed rate (for example WestJet: 100 points = $1) that rate is used. Where it publishes a fixed-points flight chart with a maximum base fare per tier (RBC Avion, CIBC Aventura, Amex Fixed Points Travel), we compute maximum fare divided by points for each tier and use 70% of the median, because those fares are caps. Programs we also value on the US site (Aeroplan, Avios, Marriott Bonvoy) use the same value as the US page, converted at the Bank of Canada rate. Where a program publishes no usable rate we say so and mark the confidence low. Values are reviewed when a program changes its published rates.

Method and sources, program by program

Aeroplan: 2.14¢ per point (medium confidence)

Aeroplan prices flights dynamically and publishes no fixed cash value. We use the same value as the US site (blended 1.50 cents USD per point, converted at the Bank of Canada rate 1.4257 = 2.14 cents CAD). Cross-check from Canadian issuers' own pages: CIBC values its Aeroplan welcome points at 2.0 cents each and TD says most cardholders get 2 cents or more.

Avios (British Airways): 1.85¢ per point (low confidence)

Same value as the US site (blended 1.30 cents USD per Avios, converted at the Bank of Canada rate 1.4257 = 1.85 cents CAD). British Airways publishes its Avios chart and Avios + money table only in logged-in search, so no Canadian cash pairing could be read; low confidence on the CAD figure.

RBC Avion Rewards: 1.4¢ per point (medium confidence)

Method 1+2. RBC publishes a fixed 100 points = $1 CAD for hotels, car rentals and other travel (floor 1.0c; a statement-credit rate was not read), and a fixed-points flight grid with a maximum base fare per tier. The grid ratios (max fare / points, taxes excluded) run 2.0c-2.33c (median 2.00c) but only apply when the ticket is at the cap, so blended is set conservatively at 70% of the median grid ratio.

CIBC Aventura: 1.3¢ per point (medium confidence)

Method 2. CIBC publishes the Aventura Airline Rewards Chart as a points range per region with a maximum base fare (taxes excluded), using the top of each points range; ratios run 1.6c-2.3c (median 1.86c), but those are caps, so blended is 70% of the median. CIBC does not publish a fixed points-to-dollar rate for Payment with Points or flexible travel on the pages read ('conversion ratio is determined by CIBC'), so no cash floor is recorded.

Asia Miles: 1.2¢ per point (low confidence)

Low confidence, no rate published: Cathay's award chart and Cash + Miles are login/dynamic and the public pages returned no CAD rate. 1.2c is an assumption, not a published value.

Sources: cathaypacific.com · as of October 8, 2026

United MileagePlus: 1.2¢ per point (low confidence)

Low confidence, no rate published: united.com's Canada MileagePlus awards page lists redemption categories but no miles-to-dollar rate or chart. 1.2c is an assumption, not a published value.

Amex Membership Rewards (Canada): 1.15¢ per point (medium confidence)

Method 1+2. Amex states 1,000 points = $10 Travel Credit (Flexible Points Travel), floor 1.0c; the statement-credit/Use Points for Purchases rate was not on the pages re-read. Fixed Points Travel grid ratios run 1.5c-2.0c (median 1.65c) as caps; blended is 70% of the median. Transfer partners (1:1) are not valued here: only the program's own published redemptions are used.

Marriott Bonvoy: 1.07¢ per point (medium confidence)

Same value as the US site (blended 0.75 cents USD per point, converted at the Bank of Canada rate 1.4257 = 1.07 cents CAD). Marriott's own fixed items are in USD only (a $50 Starbucks card = 17,500 points, 0.29c floor); hotel award prices are dynamic, so no Canadian hotel pairing could be read.

National Bank À la carte Rewards: 1¢ per point (medium confidence)

Method 1. National Bank's current page shows $100 off per 10,000 points on À la carte Travel (1.0c; round-trip Montreal-Toronto $375 value = 37,500 points), a $50 gift card for 7,250 points (0.69c) and $100 off the card balance for 25,000 points (0.4c floor). Servus Circle Rewards: 1¢ per point (medium confidence)

Method 1 (implied). servus.ca says the Servus Mastercard earns 1 Circle Reward point per $1 on the basic card and 'as many as 2 points per $1 you spend (a 2% value)', so 1 point = 1c. No per-point redemption table is published on the pages read.

Meridian Rewards: 1¢ per point (medium confidence)

Method 1 (implied). Meridian's Visa Infinite Cash Back page labels 4/2/1 reward points per $1 as 4%/2%/1% and says 'redeem your cash back rewards', so 1 point = 1c. The Rewards Program Rules PDF states points have no cash value and gives no conversion table, so this stays an inference from the percent labels.

Method 1. bluerewards.ca states 1,500 Blue Points = $10 in store or on eGift cards (0.67c). Travel and merchandise have separate unpublished rates, so travel is not valued separately; the Terms say a point's value varies by reward category.
